Breathe, Breathe, Breathe, Breathe…is what we told ourselves after recovering from seeing IYES perform at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen. We’ve been waiting to catch them live for a while (we’re so disappointed we didn’t before and hope you don’t ‘doubt our love’ for these guys), but now that we have, let’s hope we never make the mistake again! So anyway, what exactly is causing our emotional explosion?

IYES are a Brighton-based duo consisting of Josh Christopher and Melis Soyaslanova, and they first infected our ears when they released their track ‘Til Infinity. This here is 3 minutes of eargasmic pleasure. It’s infectious pulsating rhythms, tribal beats, and electro-fusion of haunting vocals makes us wish this track actually lasted Til Infinity. They have since released a cover of Beyonce’s ‘Crazy In Love‘, which they reinvented to create their own, as well as recent MNEK produced track ‘Breathe‘. They’ve blew up the blogosphere pulling in more than 100,000 SoundCloud plays on each track, as well as going on to play the BBC Introducing stage and Club NME at KOKO, London recently.

These guys definitely know how to put on a show. Performing some of their older material including ‘Lighthouse‘ – which was the first track they wrote when they met at a house party – and delivering a stripped back encore track ‘Simmer‘. You shouldn’t need any more reasons to check them out. In case you do, check out Melis’s incredibly energetic dance moves and the duo’s haunting vocals here:

It’s hard to pinpoint the exact cause over what made us ‘Glow‘ for days, but whatever it was, we need more. We need albums, headline tours, everything. Think of it as an addiction we never want to be cured from, and yes, we’ve even had their songs on repeat since. Do we sound obsessed much? Ok good.

IYES are  the complete package, the embodiment of what a band should be. It hurts us that they’re not up there with the big names already, but hey, at least we can join them on their journey and say we were there from the start right? Their stage presence, their vocals and production, even their interaction and love for their fans is what we love. We caught them after for a chat, and to be honest, we felt more like close friends, even a sense of being welcomed into the IYES family. Perhaps all this at once was what gave us the buzz? It was a truly amazing experience, and we hope we’ve convinced you enough to experience it for yourself.

IYES are currently signed to Duly Noted Records for single releases. They have been confirmed to play South London’s LEEFEST later this year, joining the likes of MØ & Fickle Friends.
